Ecology: rooted in respect for the natural world

Every garden is part of a larger ecosystem ~ a living, breathing network of soil, insects, birds, microorganisms, water and weather. My approach to gardening begins with understanding and honouring these relationships.
For me, ecology means:

  • Nurturing soil health as the foundation for every thriving plant
from my garden, nancy abra, ecology in the garden where to begin
  • Supporting pollinators and beneficial insects

Through my education, learning and garden practices with the content I share, I aim to help others see their gardens not just as curated spaces, but as vibrant ecological communities worth protecting and celebrating.
I take pride in growing a garden, flowers, and produce without chemicals, artificial fertilizers or pesticides.
The fruits and vegetables that I don’t grow I obtain from local farmers and gardeners who have good growing practices.
The recipes I use are either my own creations or trusted family recipes handed down from generation to generation and to reiterate, that is why my aim is to help others see their gardens not just as curated spaces, but as vibrant ecological communities worth starting, growing, protecting and celebrating.
